Without a doubt, dog training is a very important part in the life of your dog, and this is something that has immense importance for both the dog and its owner, since with proper training, the dog can be taught to obey simple commands and to keep their space clean as well as to remain safe as well. One of the things that you can use to reinforce desirable behavior in your dog is to give him dog training treats, which can be used to reinforce positive behavior in your pet.

Use On All Kinds Of Dogs

The best part about using dog training treats is that they can be used on all kinds of dogs are they purebred dogs or mixed breeds, and also regardless of their size and even gender. All manner of dogs can be trained and all dogs love their dog training treats, which should be given to them whenever they do something right and when the dog pleases the owner. A question that most dog owners must be asking is whether these delicious dog training treats will in fact work on any type of training or not.

There no doubts that dog training treats are a positive influence while training your dog and whenever your dog obeys a command, you should reward him with a dog training treat, and the same is the case when the dog socializes by being friendly and safe either with other animals, with humans and even with objects such as cars.

Dog training treats can also be used to train the dog in a negative manner like when it sprays or urinates at inopportune moments. To break these bad habits, you may want to teach your dog to ‘sit’ when he is about to do something wrong, and if he responds well, then you can reward him by giving him dog training treat thereby turning a possible negative situation into a positive one.

Still, though you may feel that there is nothing wrong with giving your dog some dog training treats, you should makes sure that they are healthy for the pet and should thus have the treat checked by your vet, who can then recommend certain dog training treats while disproving of those that might harm your dog. You also need to check the dog training treats for things such as chemicals and fillers and other ingredients to ensure that there is no potential for harming the dog when given such treats.

Dogs often require to be trained in obedience and other training forms before they can serve people or be able to associate with other people and dogs. For most dogs, there is a need for dog training leads especially younger dogs.

Things To Consider When Buying Dog Training Leads

There are two major things that need to be considered when you get dog training leads for your dogs. The very first thing to consider when buying training leads is the size of the dog that you have. Dogs grow quickly so you might try to anticipate the actually size of your dog when it matures when you think of buying a dog training lead. If the puppy is still too small for a large sized training lead, get an ordinary leash for the puppy until it grows enough to be trained.

One more thing to consider when buying dog training leads is the area that you plan to take your dog out in. If you live in the suburbs where you can expect less traffic and more open spaces for your dog to frolic, you might try to get a longer dog training lead but if you live in a busy city where there is traffic everywhere, try to get the shorter traffic training lead.

The Uses Of Dog Training Leads

Many people ask why we need dog training leads. Actually, these training leads are a safety precaution on top of the fact that it trains our dogs to stay close to us. It is a safety precaution for times when the dog is still not well trained enough and might lunge after people or other animals. Leads for dog training keep dogs in check and keep you away from any liabilities if you are vigilant.

Another need for dog training leads is for training purposes when you wish to train your dog to seek something out and then come back to you. For this kind of training, you will need longer a longer lead. Other dog training leads are for training your dog to say close to you, this can be especially helpful for training guide dogs for the blind before introducing the harness.

In some countries or parts of some countries, dogs are really required to be on a leash or a dog training lead when you take them for a walk. This is to be sure that the dogs are under human control all the time and to lessen any danger when it comes to biting and chasing.

When you think about dog training, there is a controversial aspect to it in the form of debarking surgery, which is a procedure that will result in low volume to the dog’s barking, and such a procedure is normally used on those dogs that not only have an especially loud barking, but who also bark incessantly. Prime examples of this procedure include debarking done on Shetlands and also collies.

Debarking Is Issue

However, debarking does not result in the dog ceasing to bark and it is only the volume that is reduced and thus this is a topic of dog training that has been debated a lot by animal lovers as well as by experts with many considering debarking to be useful on dogs that bark too loud and too much, while others consider it to be a process that is both unnecessary as well as cruel.

Debarking aside, there are other aspects to dog training that dog owners need to look at if they want their dogs to behave properly and also stay happy. Of course, there are many people who don’t even think that dog training is at all necessary while others believe that dog training should involve fear and punishment. Thus, you should not be surprised to find a whole lot of different dog training philosophies doing the rounds which can often cause much confusion in the minds of dog owners.

Before jumping into a dog training exercise, you need to realize that your dog is not a hairy version of a human because they are in fact pack animals and their world is a lot more ordered when they are following a pack rather than the dog owner. Next, you should remember that dog training need not mean having to yell and hit the dog every time he misbehaves since such behavior only puts fear as well as anxiety in the dog’s mind. Rather than respond well to the training, the dog will actually come to hate it and thus his focus will be poor and he will also not be relaxed. Still, negative reinforcement is recommended which is different to punishment and the best form of it is to withdraw his treats and also not show him any affection.

Another common fault that dog owners commit in dog training is to try and train their dog in a busy place in the mistaken belief that the dog will be able to concentrate better in an environment that is filled with distractions. And, you should also ensure that you don’t try and teach your dog too many commands because he can easily loose focus and also become bored with the training.

Dogs are one of the top animals usually taken in by people as pets. This is probably because they are loyal, trusting and can do us a service in one way or another. Of course, one of the services rendered to us by dogs is just keeping us company but they can be the most understanding companions you might ever need or want.

In most progressive countries, some dogs are required to be well behaved and can be easily controlled. This is a requirement if you want your dog to live with you in the city where he can be expected to meet a lot of people and other dogs. Some dog owners prefer to teach their dogs obedience based in dog training books rather than have them taught at training schools. These dog training books cover obedience and many other specific training that you might need for your dog.

Basic Obedience For Dogs

Some of the basic dog training books on obedience cover the more mundane aspects of training obedience like sit, stay, heel and fetch. Some people find teaching these commands easy while others will need the guidance of dog training books to be effective trainers for their dogs. The usual styles in most dog training books is to reward your pet with either a treat or praise to be able to make the dog understand that what he did was good.

Other dog training books may also have recommendations regarding how to groom and take care of your dog. Not all dog training books will be full of training advice for dogs, some may have chapters regarding choosing what kind of dog is suitable for you and your family or how to take care of a puppy and train it.

You must also be careful to choose dog training books that do not advocate harmful or inhumane dog training equipment. Some of the dog training equipment does not offer “happy” rewards for dogs instead the dogs are either spanked in the rump or electronically shocked by collars if they do not do well. The dog training books that offer these alternatives to treats and rewards may have citations for fast learning but we do not want our pets to mistrust us to harm them if they do something wrong. Instead we want them to know that they can count on us. Basing dog training on hurting the dog in order for it to remember may be faster but it might also affect the dog psychologically.

An electronic dog training collar is a dog training equipment that is primarily used to facilitate small electric shocks on the dogs on which it is attached to. It is placed around the dog’s neck in place of the original collar and the owner or trainer of the dog has a transmitter that can remotely send signals to the electronic dog training collar. The transmitter in the hands of the owner or trainer has button which the individual can push in order to send the small electric shocks to the dog via electrodes implanted on the electronic dog training collar.

Kinds Of Electronic Dog Training Collars

There are three basic kinds of electronic dog training collars. These include the manual collar that needs a person to press a button to activate the electrodes, the collar that is activated when the dog barks and the collar that activates itself when it comes close to the perimeter where the dog is not allowed to cross.

Inhumane Treatment?

One risk of using an electronic dog training collar to regulate and monitor your dog’s behavior is that there have been times when the collar randomly discharges electronic shocks on the poor dog even without it doing anything wrong. This can undo the good that the collars have done and may confuse the dog especially if it is just resting and not doing any training. This can be solved easily by taking the electronic dog training collar off when training is not in session but for those collars that curb barking and monitor the dog’s perimeter this can be confusing.

Another risk of using an electronic dog training collar is that the owner of trainer may not be able to fully control the emission and send out a shock that is too long or too intense that it can harm the dog. Some dogs who can tolerate smaller electric shocks may need bigger and longer electric shocks which are actually very inhumane.

The dogs might also eventually figure out that the collars are the cause of its discomfort and become unruly when the collar is off or may even refuse to have the collar out on. Regression may also occur when the dog has figured out that the shocks come from the collar and behave only when the collar is on it.

Another risk of using an electronic dog training collar is lesions which stem from using the snug collars. The lesions are not from the electric shocks but from the snugness of the collar which is necessary for the electrodes to come in contact with the dog’s skin.

The risks of using an electronic dog training collar far outweighs the benefits it gives us. With proper training and patience owners can usually achieve the same results as an electronic dog training collar.

There is more to training your dog than teaching it to obey your commands, since there is also dog agility training in which you can teach it to do perform different types of sport including jumping, climbing obstacles and even dodging in between poles. Dog agility training is an offshoot of horse show jumping and it was first showcased in the UK in 1979 at the Crufts Dog Show, and from then on, it has rapidly grown in popularity for the entertainment value as well sports value of it.

Must Be Able To Obey Simple Commands

Dogs by and large are very agile creatures though the dogs that are most suited for sports competition are those that are medium in size and also the larger varieties. Any dog that is being considered for undergoing dog agility training must first be checked by a veterinarian and he should also be able to obey simple commands such as sit and lie down as well as come, and it has been noticed that dogs that are well trained to obey will succeed at dog agility training much better than those having problems with obeying simple commands.

Dog agility training can be carried out in many different ways though the trainer must ensure that the method used suits the dog the best, and the agility training must be fun for the dog and it would be wise on the part of the trainer not to become overly critical of the dog or try and make it ultra competitive.

Essentially, dog agility training means making the dog weave its way through an obstacle course under the supervision of a handler and there are different types of obstacles including tunnels, poles jumps as also ramps for the dog to traverse. To begin with, the dog starts off with the simplest of obstacles and as its skills improve, the level of training becomes more difficult, and it is also to be seen how agile the dog is to begin with as that will help evaluate the type of agility training to impart to it.

When dogs have been trained in dog agility training, they will then enter into competitions in which the judge selects the direction of the obstacle the dog must follow which it does along with its handler, and once the dog has successfully completed an obstacle course, he is entitled to receive an agility title along with plenty of praise as well as goodies and of course, many toys.

Having your pet join in your outdoor activities is a great deal of fun when your dog remains obediently at your side. You can keep your eyes on him and your dog can keep his eyes on you.

It may be easier to teach your puppy to heel without a lead at first, only you will know which method is best for your dog. Puppies love to be with you and will be willing to follow you in most situations. They will also be easy to lead with the smell of food, so carry treats at all times during training. Keep the puppy on your left side at all times to heel, holding his collar attract his attention with his name.

While walking in a straight line, hold the reward out in front of him, keep your left hand close to the collar, and give the command “heel”. Stop, kneel down and give him the command to “wait”, place your left arm under his belly directly in front of the hind legs to keep him from moving forward. Speeding up you pace and slowing it down while you train him will teach him to remain at heel Continue until he has learned the heel and wait commands, now you can teach him to turn with you as you walk.

Do you want to teach your dog how to turn on command? To teach him to turn right, bend your knees and hold the food near his nose, turn right and repeat the command “heel”, he will be required to speed up to follow you and will follow the smell of the treat with little or no resistance. Teaching him to turn left is a little different; use your left hand at his collar to guide him to the left use the command “steady” hold the treat low and in front of his nose, the puppy will follow.

While training, if he looses concentration, put your left hand inside his collar and bring him back to the correct position. To avoid his jumping up when you stop, hold his collar with your left hand and the treat low in front of him.

If you follow these instructions (and have a little patience) you can train your dog to heel in no time!

A well balance diet is important for the growth of your dog - a proper diet produces strong bones, healthy muscles and a beautiful coat. Dogs love their food just like their human family, but unlike humans they’ll eat almost anything.

A dog’s food requirement changes as he grows, and each dog has individual nutritional needs. When in training, a dog needs to have the usual healthy and well balanced diet and it is important to use the appropriate treats as a training aid.

When training your dog using a food treat, reinforce the training with words, using verbal praise at the same time, this teaches the dog to respond to the words as well as the treat. Don’t give the dog a food treat every time, and don’t be consistent when giving a food treat. Dogs are very smart and will learn your pattern if you use one. This can make training difficult.

Varying the reward is the best way to prevent having a dog that only behaves when he gets food, and also avoids the problem of obesity in dogs. Use dog training treats that are healthy for your dog, and never use human food as a treat or reward. It can teach your dog a habit you won’t want to deal with later.

A dog that gets human food as a reward may end up digging in the garbage. After all, he gets this food as a reward, so digging in the trash may become a reward to him. I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense to us, but to a dog it makes perfect sense. It is the same principle as giving a dog an old sock or shoe as a toy - they don’t know the difference between the one they can have and the one they can’t have.

Training your dog is one of the biggest responsibilities you will have; it is important that you take the time to train him well.

Dogs have evolved from wolves and we began teaching and training them about 10,000 years ago. They have been our friends, partners and workers since that time. Selective breeding of dogs has always been done with a specific purpose in mind, positive traits of wolves were chosen, and the dogs were bred for that specific trait.

Training and selective breeding (breeding out certain traits) continued until a specific type of dog was achieved, this is how we have managed to develop dogs for herding live stock, guarding homes, hunting and tracking among many other things.

One problem with today’s dogs is that they are bored; dogs were bred for work, expending energy (both mental and physical) and staying busy. The majority of todays dogs, while well fed, and cared for are bored. We need to train them well and keep them busy and occupied. Working dogs should be trained in ways that allow them to use a lot of energy - this prevents boredom in their lives.

One of the issues with bored dogs is problems with their behavior, neighbors have to listen to a dog that howls and cries at all hours of the day and night. You spend hours filling in holes in the yard where he has dug holes, and these even move to the neighbors prize flower beds!

Certain activities a dog does can be quite successfully used in training, dogs instincts and
behaviors are great training tools for you. Training should be fun for you and your best friend, give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to intelligence. Remember that a dog will not do what he is not physically capable of doing (that is why there were so many Lassies). However, he will try to do anything you ask because he loves and respects you. Train in short periods of time, and always end a training session with something you know your dog can do, it closes the session on a positive note for you and your dog.

Training your dog isnt the only responsibility you have to him; he also needs to have his own doctor. This is important not only for his annual checkup and shots, but for those emergencies that do happen to your friends.

If at all possible don’t change vets on your dog, as they become accustomed to one person handling them and it is best for them if this continues. During your training time, plan to teach your dog to lay down and stay on a table as well as on the floor, no, dont use the kitchen table for this, or he may end up in the middle of your dinner.

When dogs go to the vet for the first time, they can become anxious, especially if you are anxious; they will pick up on your anxiety. Having your dog trained to lie down and stay will be a big benefit. When you are comfortable and relaxed at the vets office, which you will be if they are properly trained, they will be more likely to stay calm and allow their doctor to check them over.

This was a hard lesson for me to learn, as every time I took my dog to the vet I would get stressed out, it made for a very anxious, whiney dog and I was the only one I had to blame for it.

When your puppy goes to the vet for the first time, stay calm, dont make this seem like a big deal. When he is on the scale or examining table, use the collar and leash, tell him to lie down, if he refuses, give a sharp tug on the leash along with the command “down”. When he follows this command, praise him as a reward, it is so much easier to have a dog that minds well at the doctors office.

A well-trained dog makes the experience of going to the vet better for both of you, and the vet really appreciates not having to fight with your dog.

For close to 10,000 years humans have been involved in selective breeding of dogs in order to develop certain characteristics, including coats, body shapes and temperament. Each breed of dog therefore has different abilities and will retain certain characteristics of that breed.

One instance of this would be the herding dogs, such as the collie, shepherds and cattle dogs. They may have a tendency to nip, because that is how they are trained to herd animals. They also bark when they are excited, this was developed to notify the human in their life that something wasn’t right with the herd.

I know of a collie which was a wonderful babysitter when the children were in the yard, she knew her boundaries, and kept the children within those boundaries. No, she was not left alone with the children, this is never wise, but she would take care of the children when the parents were there.

Terriers were originally bred to chase small game and rodents, most of them are small, hearty dogs with authoritative barks. When challenged it is rare for a terrier to back down, as such they are very likely to bite and nip. Sporting dogs such as setters, pointers, spaniels and retrievers are bred to cooperate with humans; they are the more affectionate of dogs.

The difference between male and female dogs also makes a big difference in the means by which they are trained. A surge of hormones just before birth make the males masculine, males tend to grow larger, and are more territorial and dominant.

Training may become difficult at puberty and again around two years of age as the male behavior becomes more inflated. Females are neutral at birth and become more feminine at puberty, they can become more domineering, their moods may change, and it is common for their tastes to change. Neutering just before puberty guarantees that her temperament will not change.

When obtaining a dog, be aware of how their breed trains, it can make a big difference in the manners of the dog you raise.

Dogs are very cute and irresistible pets – that’s for sure. However, if they are not properly trained, it could ruin your home and furniture since they would poop as well as urinate all over the place leaving you at your wit’s end as to how to get your dog potty trained? However, you need not despair since there are a few steps for you to follow that will ensure that you learn all that there is to know about dog potty training, and thus help your pet learn where to go when needing to pass stool, or urinate.

Train Dogs Like You Train Little Children

Dogs must be trained just like little children are trained and thus they should be introduced to correct dog potty training at an early stage when they are most receptive to learning and which will ensure that your dog goes out and does its business where it has been taught to go. After the dog is introduced to dog potty training, it will ensure that your home stays in order and you won’t need to spend time cleaning up the mess an untrained animal is sure to create.

The first thing you should do is to crate your dog, since that is an important first step in house breaking your dog during which time you can keep a close eye on your pet while he is being trained to do his potty in the proper place. You need to ensure that he is not left alone for too long as he may do nasty while you are not about and that would defeat the purpose of dog potty training.

Another important aspect to house breaking your dog is to feed the dog a diet consisting of proper food, which is important if you wish the dog potty training to succeed. You should be aware that certain dog foods are not so good for your pet, and such foods can adversely affect how it poops. In addition, you should also give the dog the proper portion of food, and remember that if there is more waste in the food, the greater is the likelihood of it wanting to eliminate. For more details, you can consult your veterinarian about which the correct foods for your dog are.

Yet another important aspect to proper dog potty training is to schedule his meal times as well as times when it drinks, and try and not give him treats before it is time for him to go to bed at night, and you should also give limited amounts of water, as it will not encourage the dog to drink out of boredom or because of stress.

No doubt, house breaking your dog is a time consuming activity and you as the owner needs to be patient, and if you want to succeed, you can even take expert advice to get over whatever teething problems occur during the training period, and using proven strategies will bound to have a positive effect on your dog’s eliminating habits.

These days, whatever you are searching for is available online and dog training tips are not an exception, and if you look around, you will come across a number of sites that provide dog training tips from getting your puppy potty trained, to teaching dogs new tricks and also getting the dog to learn how to behave properly. Suffice to say, that there are some very basic dog training tips available that can bring about radical changes in your pet in the way that he behaves with other dogs, and also with strangers.

Learning To Follow Simple Commands

You can choose from different types of dog training tips and it would depend on the type of training you wish your dog to undergo though basically you will want the dog to follow simple commands. Thus, you can get the dog trained so as to show you its tummy and also teach it how to roll over and have its stomach scratched, which is something that most dogs love.

You also want your dog to understand that it is being praised, and besides teaching it how to behave, you also want your dog to understand when it has done something right and is thus worthy of praise, and it will show to the dog how pleased you are with its behavior, and it will then learn to understand that it has done a good thing.

Other handy dog training tips include sending the dog to attend obedience classes, which is something that many dog owners recommend since at an obedience class, the dog will begin to understand the need to obey commands, and the dog owner can also learn how to train the dog at home. Besides showering praise on your dog, you can also reinforce its behavior (good) with treats and also rewards to promote desirable behavior in your pet.

Another positive dog training tip is to teach your dog to play certain games that help reinforce proper behavior in the dog, and which will make for a good and fun learning experience for the dog, and though it does mean being very repetitive, it will ingrain the dog with good habits.

Also, it helps with dog training tips to ensure that you train your dog in different locations since that will help it to learn certain commands irrespective of where the dog is. The example of leash training is a case in point, because though this form of training is best performed outdoors, it pays to also teach your dog inside the home as well, to make the training that much more effective.

Dogs are one of the animals that are closest to human beings. They serve us in many capacities not only as companion dogs but also as guide dogs for the blind, rescue dogs, K9 units, sheep dogs and many more. There are many ways to train dogs for specific duties and there are also a lot of dog training equipment to choose from to efficiently train dogs.

Why We Train Dogs

Although many dogs are highly intelligent and are credited to be able to understand their masters well, they still need training to be able to fully serve their masters. The numerous dog training equipment along with well trained personnel who can train dogs for specific duties all come down to training a dog to help or assist people. Dog training equipment varies depending on the need of specific roles that dogs are trained for.

Dogs that assist blind people have specific dog training equipment such as a harness and a lead. The harness dog training equipment for guide dogs for the blind is not initially introduced to the dogs when they are still puppies. First, the chosen dogs are sent to foster homes where they are trained basic obedience training such as stay, sit, heel and other commands. The dog training equipment that puppies and young dogs encounter in their foster homes are just leads and collars.

When the dogs come to a certain age, they are surrendered to the establishment that trains them to be guide dogs for the blind. Before this, they are evaluated again for their suitability to guiding blind people. Those that are found capable then go through intensive training with dog training equipment specifically aimed at training them for guiding blind people. The process takes less than a year and when they have passed, they are then placed with blind people who seek to have a guide dog.

The dog training equipment used to train the dogs to efficiently guide blind people are similar or the same to the harnesses used in real life. Actually, some blind people take off the harness from the dog when they are at their home. They usually use it when they are out of their homes or in unfamiliar places.

Guide dogs for the blind are discouraged from playing with other people while they are “on duty”. People are also discouraged from petting them or distracting these dogs from their service.

When you are training a new dog, it is best to face reality: most of us are not the Dog Whisperer. Dog training books can help new owners train their young pet’s good behavior skills from the first step instead of dealing with bad behavior later. They also help frustrated owners whose relationship with their pets is strained because of behavior issues.

These resources are invaluable tools for owners with young pets that need to learn how to behave in new surroundings or dogs that have separation anxiety (i.e.: chew on furniture when they are left alone). Owners also struggle with issues like aggressive behavior, house training, establishing who is the Alpha, or dominant personality in the home and setting boundaries.

Regardless if you are a new pet owner or you raise canines on a professional level, there are many training resources available to you. Dog training books range from general training to behavior problems to specific methods. Once you make a decision about what type of training you need for your pet, you can then focus on resources that will help you reach that goal.

It’s extremely important to utilize resources that are easy to use and effective. For example, a training book on The Clicker Method rewards dogs with treats when they follow commands. Other methods on which dog training books are produced are The Dog Whisperer Method as well as the Positive Reinforcement Method. Both of these methods exercise training tools that promote non-violent owner treatment while training your pet.

It is always to your benefit to review the basics of training methods before you decide which method to use. Consider your dog’s personality and how a specific type of training might work for him or her. Sticking to a less structured training regime and buying a variety of dog training books may not be what your dog needs to learn. Online tools are also available with reviews of dog training books and tips on how to get more results from them. This could serve as a great resource in determining what book should be used to train your pet.

Whether you bring home a puppy or a full-grown dog, it is important to have a plan in place. In a new home with new owners a dog will require some form of training so that everyone can coexist peacefully. There are several dog training books on specific methods available to help train your pet. If you stick to one method of training, be certain to research it and know what other owners and your veterinarian think about it. If your dog needs training in certain areas, choose a method that focuses on particular types of behavior. Whatever your preference there is a large variety of dog training books available to assist you with making a dog a wonderful addition to your family.
